What is a WSP file?

WSP files mostly belong to SharePoint Server by Microsoft. A WSP file contains the workspace of an application project created with Visual Studio integrated development environment. Applications such as Chromeleon, Magellan, FlowJo, and PaintShop also use WSP files to store their workspaces. Another type of WSP file is a solution package used by SharePoint web-based and native content management platform. A solution package contains custom SharePoint features, site definitions/assemblies created with Visual Studio and deployed to a SharePoint Server instance. Web Site Publisher for Windows uses a different WSP file to store its configuration.

How to open WSP files

You need a suitable software like SharePoint Server to open a WSP file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
