What is a XEX file

XEX files mostly belong to Xbox 360 by Microsoft. A XEX file is the executable application on an Xbox 360 console's game disc. This file contains compiled code which can be executed by Xbox 360's operating system or an Xbox 360 emulator. Another type of XEX file is a Windows executable (EXE) flagged as a potentially dangerous email attachment. For this reason, some email clients rename the attachment's filename extension to XEX as a temporary security measure. Windows may be able to execute a XEX file despite the changed extension.

How to open a XEX file

You need a suitable software like Xbox 360 to open a XEX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert.
