All about XSN Files
The XSN file type is primarily associated with InfoPath.
What is an XSN file
How to open XSN files
You need a suitable software like InfoPath to open an XSN file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your XSN file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a XSN file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert XSN files:
- InfoPath by Microsoft
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. XSN files are often referred to as InfoPath page layouts because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- xyALGEBRA (data) by University of New YorkxyALGEBRA is a discontinued application for solving verbal and algebra problems. Some data used by xyALGEBRA is saved in an XSN file. This file format is classified as Data.
XSN file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the XSN files:
The XSN file extension is quite common and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in XSN files are:
- 96% of all XSN files belong to InfoPath Dynamic Form - Template. The files are using the common file format CAP. CAP files are compressed archives. The first bytes (the signature) are 'MSCF' (short for MicroSoft Cabinet File). They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are often between 8 KB and 180 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. The files contain the following words: MSCF, manifest.xsf, sampledata.xml, view1.xsl, upgrade.xsl and myschema.xsd. Files like these are sometimes connected to form, template, request, report, duty, calculator, vehicle and motor.
- 2% of all XSN files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "XSENSORTECHCORP" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. XSN files can be up to 8 MB in size, but are often around 2 KB - 7 MB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. XSENSORTECHCORP.
All the rest of the XSN files (2%) have different formats. Often described as feedback, payment, nezarat, service, order or time. Just click the "Choose your .xsn file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your XSN file is.
