$$$ file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the $$$ files looks like this:
The $$$ file extension includes various formats for various programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 30% of all $$$ files are based on the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. This file format is used by previous Microsoft Office programs and other Windows programs and stores the data in complex containers and sections. The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The file contains sections that are named something like FileHeader, BodyText, DocInfo, DocOptions, HwpSummaryInformation, Scripts, PrvImage, PrvText and BinData. $$$ files can be up to 250 MB in size, but are often around 16 KB - 70 MB. The file type is relatively new.
- 8% of all $$$ files start with the bytes î¾Þ, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The average file size is 48 KB with most files being between 15 KB and 48 KB in size. The keywords Images are typical for these files.
All other $$$ files (62%) have no uniform format, the following 5 formats can be found: JPG, ZIP and JSX. These files sometimes refer to inhalt, system or gruppo. If you want to find out what your $$$ file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
