What is an ARGO file?

ARGO files mostly belong to ArgoUML. ArgoUML is a UML diagramming application written in Java and released under the open source BSD License. By virtue of being a Java application, it is available on any platform supported by Java.

What to Do When a .ARGO File Fails to Open

A .ARGO file may originate from different applications and isn't universally openable by standard software.

1. Identify the Source: If received from a software engineer or systems architect, it is likely an ArgoUML Project file containing UML diagrams.
2. Check the Header: Open the file in a text editor or hex viewer to inspect its first few lines:
   • <?xml indicates a standard ArgoUML XML project.
   • PK suggests a zipped archive format.
3. Use the Original Software: The original program is usually required; try ArgoUML, or ask the sender if uncertain.

ARGO file format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the ARGO files looks like this:

The ARGO file extension is rarely used and predominantly uses a uniform format. The following file formats are most commonly found in ARGO files:

• 75% of all ARGO files are ArgoUML project files, which are based on the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are on average 1 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 2 KB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. </description>, <argo version="6">, <authoremail></authoremail>, <authorname></authorname>, <description>, <documentation>, </documentation> and <version>0.34</version>. Files like these are sometimes connected to diagram, activity, class and case.
