What is an ASD file?

ASD files mostly belong to Word by Microsoft. ASD is the filename of extension of backup documents created by the AutoSave (also called AutoRecover) component of Word document processor. An ASD file contains the latest snapshot of a (DOC or DOCX) document which is currently being edited in Word. These ASD documents are created at intervals and used to recover the latest changes in a document in case Word crashes or you accidentally close the document without saving it. ASD is also the filename extension of audio sample analysis data used by Live music composition and live performance software. Such ASD files are created when an audio sample is recorded or importing for the first time. Metadata stored in this file are used for waveform display, beat-matching etc. Alphacam woodworking CAD/CAM software saves stone drawings in an ASD file.

How do you open ASD files?

You need a suitable software like Word to open an ASD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ASD file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ASD file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ASD file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the ASD files:

You will often come across the ASD file type. This is mainly used by one program with a specific format. However, the following two file formats are common:

All the rest of the ASD files (20%) have different formats, often e.g. Ableton Warp Analysis. Often described as autorecovered, dokument, autorrecuperaci, word, recoverysaveof, kurtarma, otomatik, draft or kayd. If you want to find out which format your ASD file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .asd file to analyze".

an asd document backup is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.

How to solve problems with ASD files

  • Associate the ASD file extension with the correct application.
  • Update your software that should actually open document backups. Because only the current version supports the latest ASD file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Word update.
  • To make sure that your ASD file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
  • Click here to open your .ASD file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
