What is a BAND file?

BAND files mostly belong to GarageBand by Apple. BAND is the filename extension of audio projects created using GarageBand music production/recording software for macOS. A BAND file serves as a container which holds all media resources, metadata, and settings of an audio project. Media resources stored in this file can include vocals, effects, and sound presets. GarageBand stores all data used in a project in a single BAND container file to allow seamless transfer of projects across devices.

How do you open BAND files?

You need a suitable software like GarageBand from Apple to open a BAND file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. BAND file format:

If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. The BAND file extension is used very often and is mainly used by one program with a specific format. The file formats most commonly found in BAND files are:

• 85% of all BAND files are based on the zip format, the BAND file contains a number of compressed files. 9 to 30 compressed files are common. • 6% of all BAND files are based on the well-known Mac2OSX file format. The Mac2OSX format is an AppleDouble format and originally used to store additional metadata on Unix systems. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are often between 420 bytes and 4 KB in size. The keywords Mac OS X, ATTR;, com.apple.quarantine and com.apple.lastuseddate#PS are typical for these files. Files like these are about audio.
