What is a BAU file?

BAU files mostly belong to OpenOffice. These BAU files serve as compressed archive containers for specialized data. Their design supports two main formats:

How to open a BAU file

You need a suitable software like OpenOffice to open a BAU file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. BAU file format:

To view or edit BAU files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the BAU files:

The BAU file extension is rarely used and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 50% of all BAU files use ZIP compression, so several files are combined and compressed into one BAU file. The included 2 to 110 files have file names such as BlockList.xml, mimetype and \META-INF\manifest.xml. If you'd like to see the images and files included, just rename the file extension to .zip and double-click. BAU files are between 550 bytes and 190 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. mimetypePK, BlockList.xml and META-IN. The following filename is common: mytexts.bau or standard.bau.
• 20% of all BAU files use the same file format, which have the signature U { #;Êùäéêüò Ó÷ïëÞò;. They consist of unreadable binary data. BAU files can be up to 22 KB in size, but are often around 890 bytes - 10 KB. Files like these are sometimes connected to grades.
