What is a BCZ file?

BCZ files mostly belong to Siemens NX. BCZ Files are files that store compressed data using the ZIP format. They are mostly used as backup archives in Siemens NX CAD systems managed by NX PSS.
When you open a BCZ file, you are likely dealing with one of two use cases:

Siemens NX CAD Backup Archive: The file contains archived CAD project data. It is created to back up or restore the work done in Siemens NX software. Specialized software from Siemens is recommended to view and edit these files properly.

Compressed Billing Data: In some cases, BCZ files hold compressed billing records. Standard decompression tools may be used to extract and view this kind of data.

How do you open BCZ files?

You need a suitable software like Siemens NX to open a BCZ file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. BCZ file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the BCZ files looks like this:

BCZ is not a common file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. The file formats most commonly found in BCZ files are:

• 75% of all BCZ files use ZIP compression, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one BCZ file. A BCZ file can contain up to 190 files (mostly 3 - 40). Common included file names are [Manifest].xml, images_preview.qaf and qafmetadata.qaf. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The average file size is 1 MB with most files being between 52 KB and 13 MB in size. The keywords OffExp are typical for these files. These files are often associated with nxpss, briefcase and nissan.
• 15% of all BCZ files start with the bytes DynaCAD, which are crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are often between 130 KB and 4 MB in size. The keywords DynaCAD21 Ver.0.00 are typical for these files.
