Opening BKY Files
The BKY file type is primarily associated with MIT App Inventor.
What is a BKY file?

How can I open a BKY file?
You need a suitable software like MIT App Inventor to open a BKY file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BKY file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BKY file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

BKY file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Our examination of the BKY files comes to the following conclusion:
BKY is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type mainly uses a defined BKY format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 85% of all BKY files are App Inventor Blocks XML files, which are using the popular XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. A typical file size is 15 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <xml xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">, false, value, mutation component_type, <block type="component_event", instance_name, is_generic, NAME, field and field name. Some examples of file names are Screen1.bky.
- 5% of all BKY files start with the bytes B9 86 B1 7D 23 A4 CA 4E B9 86 B1 7D B9 86, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. The files are on average 1 KB in size and range from 880 bytes to 1 KB. A usual file name is LicensePro.bky.
All the rest of the BKY files (10%) have different formats. If you want to find out which format your BKY file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .bky file to view".
Technical Data for BKY File Extension
a bky XML source file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with BKY files
- Associate the BKY file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open xml source files. Because only the current version supports the latest BKY file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available MIT App Inventor update.
- To make sure that your BKY file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .BKY file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
