How do you open BM_ files?

You need a suitable software like PCPaint to open a BM_ file. To find out what program is needed to open BM_ files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. The BM_ file extension is not common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. The file formats most commonly found in BM_ files are:

• 60% of all BM_ files use the same file format, which have the signature SZDD. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are on average 17 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 170 KB. The file type is very old and rarely used today. The following keywords are characteristic: SZDD. Some examples of file names are PCPS.BM_. These files are often associated with wallpaper, winlogo and color.
• 15% of all BM_ files are based on the popular CAP file format. CAP files are compressed archives. The first bytes (the signature) are 'MSCF' (short for MicroSoft Cabinet File). If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The files are 420 bytes to 12 KB in size, with a median of 4 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. MSCF.
