What is a BPC file

BPC files mostly belong to NAIF SPICE. An BPC file is not a single universal format. Instead, it is a binary container used in several specialized fields. Its structure and content depend on the originating application and context.

How to open a BPC file

You need a suitable software like NAIF SPICE to open a BPC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your BPC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a BPC file directly in the browser:. BPC file extension format:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. The BPC file ending includes different formats for different programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 40% of all BPC files are based on the zip format, so several files are combined and compressed into one BPC file. Most often they are 6 to 280 compressed files. You can see the included files and images by renaming the file extension to .zip and then double-clicking it. The average file size is 8 MB with most files being between 560 KB and 96 MB in size. A common filename is gui.bpc or GENERIC.bpc. These files are often associated with astc, cars, series, event, skins, radarmap, anim, accessories, textures, streams, vehicle and events.
• 15% of all BPC files use the same file format, which have the signature a(H5. They consist of unreadable binary data. The files are often between 3 MB and 5 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 2lW#&%1cK1a5PF2t4VC*, 01oK1aT;/_[%]NiS, "11aC9a5, Ez&f and a(H5u5UN2tU. An example of a file name is common.bpc or common[1].bpc.
