Opening a CID File
The CID file type is primarily associated with Docker.
What is a CID file?
How to open CID files
You need a suitable software like Docker to open a CID file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CID file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CID file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert CID files:
- Docker by Docker
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. CID files are often referred to as Docker developers because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- CallerID (data) by AnalogXCallerID is a Windows-based program that uses any Unimodem or V-compatible voice modem that has caller id support to track incoming calls; including the caller's name and number, the number of calls received from this person etc. CallerID stores some data in CID files. This file format is classified as Data.
- coDiagnostiX (user defined implant) by Dental WingscoDiagnostiX is a 3D dental implant planning software. This program is available for desktop and iPad devices. All available implant samples in coDiagnostiX are stored in an easily accessible database while user-defined implants are stored in CID files. This file format is classified as CAD.
- LibreSCL (configured IED description) by LibreSCLLibreSCL is an open-source library used to create, read, and modify System Configuration Language (SCL) files used by intelligent electronic devices (IED). LibreSCL stores the configuration that an IED configuration tool uses to communicate with an IED in an a CID file. This file format is classified as Data. - Navigator (chart image description) by TecepeNavigator is a celestial navigation program for charting, viewing, and tracking celestial objects. It automatically generates an image description file when a scanned chart is imported. This chart image description file has CID filename extension. This file format is classified as Raster Image.
- PaintTool SAI (data) by SYSTEMAXPaintTool SAI is a raster graphics editor and graphics design software for Windows operating system. It saves various canvas information and temporary data in CID and DAT files. This file format is classified as Raster Image.
CID file format:
If you know the file format, you can also find out how to open or edit the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Below is our analysis of the CID files:
CID is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 35% of all CID files are based on the well-known XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The file size is in the range of 98 KB to 1 MB. It is a modern file type. The following keywords are characteristic: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <SCL xmlns="http://www.iec.ch/61850/2003/SCL", http://www.w3.org/2001/, with, schemaLocation and xsi.
- 10% of all CID files start with the magic bytes 01 00 04, which are always the first bytes of this file format. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. A typical file size is 6 KB. The keywords FSType are typical for these files. Files like these have the following tags: font, bold, baskerville and roman.
The remaining 55% of all CID files are files with no common format, the following 4 formats exist: JPG and BEGIN. They are often associated with font, jalus, telia, bold, baskerville or temp. If you want to find out which format your CID file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .cid file to analyze".
Technical Data for CID File Extension
a cid container id is a special file format by Docker and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CID files
- Associate the CID file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open container ids. Because only the current version supports the latest CID file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Docker manufacturer website after an available Docker update.
- To make sure that your CID file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .CID file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
