What is a CLL file?

CLL files mostly belong to Callisto.

CLL files store list data used in different communication and catalog applications. They are not a single format but serve several purposes depending on the software that created them.

Call Log List: some of CLL files are used to record call details. They may be recognized as a Callisto Clipboard Data file, containing phone call records.

Cell Phone List File: some serve as a repository for cell phone contact information. These files are created by the Cell Phone List Creator and sometimes called CaddyList List Files by TapCIS.

Catalogue List File: some are used to organize catalog or collection data. These files, produced by ENC Creator, can be XML-based. More details can be found at the related webpage.

To view or edit a CLL file, use the software that originally generated it. In cases where the file is in a plain text or XML format, a text editor might display its contents. However, proprietary formats need the designated application to fully interpret the data.

How to open CLL files

You need a suitable software like Callisto to open a CLL file. CLL file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below you will find our evaluation of the CLL files:

CLL is seldom used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. The two most common formats are as follows:

• 45% of all CLL files start with the magic bytes 02 00 02 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. The file size is in the range of 17 KB to 470 KB. The file type is relatively new. The keywords Root are typical for these files.
• 20% of all CLL files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "Cell" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. The average file size is 9 KB with most files being between 3 KB and 87 KB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as tap.2000 and Cell51.
