It usually contains delimiter-separated values such as the name of the application or service that crashed, cause of crash, device information, timestamp, path to executable, operating system etc. Operating systems, program, and devices which save crash logs/reports in CRASH files include:

  • iOS

  • iPadOS

  • macOS

  • Steam

  • Sibelius

  • Media Composer

  • Pro Tools

  • Digital Combat Simulator

You need a suitable software like Crash Reporter to open a CRASH file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CRASH file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CRASH file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CRASH file extension format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the CRASH files looks like this:

You will often come across the CRASH file type. This includes different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:

All other CRASH files (35%) have no uniform format, often e.g. JSON, Application, Version, Date and book. Tagged as ofwarships, world, tebis, stats, dgdaemon or agent. If you want to find out what your CRASH file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
