What is a CRYPTRA file?

CRYPTRA files mostly belong to Cryptra.exe by BMB Software. CRYPTRA will open the file you want to send in absolute privacy in read-only mode.  It will then create a file with the same name and in the same directory but with a file extension of .cryptra.  So if you want to send a file named "Test.txt", you run it through CRYPTRA and it will produce an encrypted file named "Test.cryptra" and this is the file you send.  CRYPTRA will also keep track of the OTP files that have been used and how many remain for you to use.  CRYPTRA has been designed to be extremely easy to use.

  2. Check the Header: Open the file in a hex viewer to inspect its first bytes.
    • Random binary data confirms strong encryption.
    • "PK" suggests a renamed encrypted ZIP archive.
  3. Use the Original Software: You typically need the original program to decrypt it; try Cryptra.exe by BMB Software, or ask the sender for the required tool.
  4. Use this Webpage: Drag and drop your file into our viewer to detect its format, extract readable metadata, and preview contents when possible.
