Opening CSX Files
The CSX file type is primarily associated with Visual Studio.
What is a CSX file?
How can I open a CSX file?
You need a suitable software like Visual Studio from Microsoft to open a CSX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CSX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CSX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

CSX file format:
Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the CSX files is as follows:
CSX is not that commonly used as a file extension. This file type covers a large number of different file formats. The following file formats are most commonly found in CSX files:
- 20% of all CSX files use the same file format, which have the signature Entis. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are 6 MB to 15 MB in size, with a median of 15 MB. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Cotopha Image file, Entis, Point::Point, Size::Size, this and image. The file name yosuga.csx or Haruka.csx is typical for these files.
- 20% of all CSX files start with the bytes 4c6173744e616d653aaa5fce4cd497e9fe5c38d29288c0e3a0, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The files are 16 KB to 41 KB in size, with a median of 33 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. 4c6173744e616d653aaa5fce4cd497e9fe5c38d29288c0e3a0419a1d44d9f975d0e0382deb7330ad7f7ccdfb86915761565b17d87b43ccdff0517a1ede06d01a63ef6dc31c2022b8cc7b908f397e5e8378bb5a9c0e4b1cb9ed88e287819ae7363e8e0c9e. A usual file name is csvexport.csx.
The remaining 60% of all CSX files are files with no common format, frequently e.g. XML, Source and ZIP. Files like these are sometimes linked to device, bank, ltest, item, step or abba. If you want to find out which format your CSX file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .csx file to analyze".
Technical Data for CSX File Extension
a csx executable script is a special file format by Microsoft and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CSX files
- Associate the CSX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open executable scripts. Because only the current version supports the latest CSX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Microsoft manufacturer website after an available Visual Studio update.
- To make sure that your CSX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
