Opening a CXL File
The CXL file type is primarily associated with ChemAxon.
What is a CXL file?
Other instances include:
- CAD/BIM exchange: Tekla Structures uses a UTF-8 encoded CXL file as a model file. See details at Tekla.
- License management: Some systems use a UTF-16 (LE) encoded CXL file to hold license or compliance information. More information is available at Checkmarx.
- Channel exclusions: In certain cases, CXL files list TV channel exclusions for Wireless Workbench setups. Visit Shure for further specifics.
FilExt.com tip: Viewing these files in a text editor will reveal the underlying XML or text structure. Use dedicated software tied to the file’s purpose for proper editing and management.
How to open CXL files
You need a suitable software like ChemAxon to open a CXL file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your CXL file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a CXL file directly in the browser:. - ChemAxon
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. CXL files are often referred to as ChemAxon data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Business Integrator (Extract Schema) by Pervasive Software Inc.Pervasive Business Integrator is specially suited for message-based application integration such as ESB (enterprise service bus) and SOA (Service Oriented Architecture).
- ConsoXL (Project File) by jepibConsoXL is a program for the consolidation of Excel sheets. If you often send out spreadsheets to affiliates, branches, departments -- and later need to consolidate them all, ConsoXL will help you do this by analyzing the content of the files and producing a consolidated worksheet automatically. This file format is classified as Spreadsheet.
CXL file format details:
To view or edit CXL files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. When there is a problem with a file, the first step to solving it is to determine the file format. Below is our analysis of the CXL files:
The CXL file extension is used very often and mainly uses a defined CXL format. But the following two file formats are common:
- 80% of all CXL files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 62 KB. It is a modern file type. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, standalone and <cmap xmlns:dcterms="http://purl.org/dc/terms/" xmlns="http://cmap.ihmc.us/xml/cmap/" xmlns:dc="http://purl.org/dc/elements/1.1/" xmlns:vcard="http://www.w3.org. A common filename is license.cxl. These files are often associated with cmap, electrodynamics, concepts, model, mapa, assignment, conceptual, knowledge, building, graph and data.
- 6% of all CXL files internally utilize the UTF-16 (LE) file format. UTF-16 (LE) is an character encoding system for Unicode. UTF-16 files can be viewed in any modern text editor. These files start with the two bytes FF FE, the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. The files are often between 4.1 KB and 4.4 KB in size. These files can be linked to apac, year, prod and sdlc.
All the rest of the CXL files (14%) have different formats. They are often associated with apac, year, project, compliance, validation, hackathon, comcheck, center, river, link, prod, sdlc, team or type. You can get all the details of your CXL file by dragging it onto this page or by clicking the button "Choose your .cxl file to view" above.
Technical Data for CXL File Extension
a cxl data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with CXL files
- Associate the CXL file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest CXL file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available ChemAxon update.
- To make sure that your CXL file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
