What is a DDI file?

DDI files mostly belong to VOCALOID5.

The DDI file can mean different things in different environments. It may be a file that holds a Vocaloid voice bank used with VOCALOID5, where it stores voice data for singing synthesis.
It is also seen as a disk image file (often compressed), used by tools like DiskDupe or ImgBurn. Other uses include:

  • Game Maker Studio image files used in game asset management.
  • Device Driver Image files for installing system drivers.
  • Data Documentation Initiative XML files (UTF-8 encoded) for recording research metadata, supported by the DDI Alliance.
  • 3D image format files, sometimes encrypted, created by Daz Studio (Daz 3D).
  • Data Definition Interface files used as part of disk image data workflows.

FilExt.com tip: If you have a DDI file, inspect its contents with a text or hex editor to see if it begins with XML tags or other application-specific markers. This will help determine the correct software to open it.

DDI format details:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. Our evaluation of the DDI files is as follows:

DDI is not a commonly used file extension and includes various formats for various programs. The following file formats are most commonly found in DDI files:

All the rest of the DDI files (65%) have different formats, the following 7 formats can be found: DiskDupe 5, DiskDupe/MSD Disk Image and XML. Files like these are sometimes linked to bimbo, shadows, alley, sweet or acme. If you want to find out which format your DDI file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ddi file to analyze".
