All about DPV Files
The DPV file type is primarily associated with Microsoft Publisher.
What is a DPV file?
Use the original application for each file type. For design preview files, open them with Microsoft Publisher or a compatible desktop publishing tool. For parameter or production files, use the dedicated software provided by the equipment manufacturer.
FilExt.com tip: Always verify the file source before choosing a program to open it, as the same DPV extension may serve different purposes.
How to open a DPV file
You need a suitable software like Microsoft Publisher to open a DPV file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your DPV file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a DPV file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert DPV files:
- Microsoft Publisher
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. DPV files are often referred to as Microsoft Publisher page layouts because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- PrintView (Raw Text) by DATAIR Employee Benefit Systems, Inc.Also applies to Defined Contribution/401(k) Plan Administration System. May contain printer formating codes. PrintView reinterprets the codes according to configuration and displays a WYSIWYG representation of the file, which can then be printed to any Windows print device, or saved as .RTF or .PDF. This file format is classified as Text. Related links: Defined Contribution Plan Administration System
DPV file format:
To view or edit DPV files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. Our evaluation of the DPV files is as follows:
The DPV file extension is rather rarely used and includes various formats for various programs. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 30% of all DPV files internally use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. Compound document files work similarly to real file systems. They contain a number of independent data streams (like files in a file system) which are organized in a hierarchy of containers (like sub-directories in a file system). The Compound Document format is always starting with the bytes D0 CF 11 E0 A1 B1 1A E1. The file contains sections PreviewGroup. The average file size is 11 KB with most files being between 11 KB and 680 KB in size. The file type was developed 10 years ago and is still in use today. The following filename is common: RESUME.DPV or BROCHURE.DPV. Such files sometimes refer to calendar.
- 15% of all DPV files have no uniform signature. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. A typical file size is 63 MB. These files can be linked to decathlon, globus, cajas, linea and domo, and often include person-related information.
All other DPV files (55%) have no consistent format, often, for example, config, XML and separated. These files sometimes refer to drafting, standard, user, email, place or pick. If you want to find out which format your DPV file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .dpv file to analyze".
Technical Data for DPV File Extension
a dpv preview file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with DPV files
- Associate the DPV file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open preview files. Because only the current version supports the latest DPV file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Microsoft Publisher update.
- To make sure that your DPV file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
