What is a DUM file

DUM files mostly belong to PDF viewer.

DUM files are container files that do not always use their displayed extension to show their true format. In many cases the file holds PDF data, meaning that it is essentially a renamed PDF document. However, a DUM file can also store image formats such as JPEG or PNG.

If the file contains PDF data, any PDF reader should work. When the data is image based, you may find that the file is a document image file. For example:

• If the internal format is PDF, simply renaming the file to end with .pdf lets your PDF viewer open it.

How to open DUM files

You need a suitable software like PDF viewer to open a DUM file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. DUM file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). If the file extension does not match the file format, double-clicking on the file will cause an error upon opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. DUM is not a commonly used file extension and includes different formats for different programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 40% of all DUM files are based on the popular PDF file format. PDF is short for Portable Document Format, is a file format to present documents, including text formatting and images, in a manner independent of application software, hardware, and operating systems. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. A typical file size is 330 KB. The file type is very recent. These files are often associated with content, temp, certificate and medicare.
• 15% of all DUM files are based on the well-known JPG file format. JPEG is the standard image format for lossy and compressed image data. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. DUM files can be up to 4 MB in size, but are often around 11 KB - 2 MB. The files contain the following words: JFIF and Exif.
