What is a DXS file?

DXS files mostly belong to Deus Ex by Square Enix. A DXS file contains a saved game that Deus Ex uses to resume a gameplay session the next time a user starts the game. It contains checkpoints and other information about the player's latest progress through the game. Another type of DXS file contains live wallpaper data created and used by Wallpaper Engine. Multiple DXS files are bundled with each live wallpaper.

How to open a DXS file

You need a suitable software like Deus Ex to open a DXS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. DXS file extension format:

To find out what program is needed to open DXS files, you need to determine the file format. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. • 4% of all DXS files are using the well-known Unreal file format to store the data. This Unreal Engine Package by Epic Games may contain textures, maps, music files, 3D models, or game settings. The package can be created and edited using the Unreal Development Kit. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The file size is in the range of 34 KB to 16 MB. The following keywords are characteristic: None, Level, PointRegion, Vector, Description, InternalTime, Location, Palette, UBits, UClamp, VBits, VClamp and DirectoryIndex. SaveInfo.dxs or 01_NYC_UNATCOIsland.dxs is a typical file name. These files are often associated with info, save, unatcoisland and area.
