All about ECC Files
The ECC file type is primarily associated with dvdisaster.
What is an ECC file?
- Main Use: dvdisaster is a program used for the prevention of data loss on CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs. The information related to the error-correcting codes is stored in the ECC files. These ECC files need to be created first from an error-free disc in order to construct the damaged sectors on a corrupt disc later on. ECC files are useful in securing the information present on CDs,DVDs, and Blu-ray discs as optical discs have a finite lifespan.
- Other Uses: ECC file format is also used to denote ICE ECC verification files that are designed for protecting sensitive digital data from getting corrupted. ECC files save information about the original files and folder structure which can later be used to cross check and compare whether the information has been altered in any form or has become corrupt. ECC files are also used by Essential Taceo email security software. Essential Taceo email security program uses ECC files to store crypto containers that are created when the protection of email contents by the software is turned on. The ECC files ensure data is secured from theft and unauthorized access.
How can I open an ECC file?
You need a suitable software like dvdisaster to open an ECC file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ECC file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ECC file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert ECC files:
- dvdisaster by Carsten Gnörlich
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. ECC files are often referred to as dvdisaster disk images because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Ecchi Role-playing Format (X-rated anime media file) by Carsten GnörlichThis file format is generally representative of X-rated Anime Files, however, there exists no further documentation regarding the type of data exactly is contained within these files. This file format is classified as Video. Related links: XnView
- Essential Taceo (crypto container file) by Essential Security Software, Inc.The file extension ECC is created when the content, E-mail, document or image is protected using Essential Taceo. Essential Taceo provides the ability to prevent Copy/Paste/Printing of E-mail and Documents. Only your intended recipient(s) can open an object with the ECC file extension. This file format is classified as Encoded.
ECC file format:
The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below is our analysis of the ECC files:
The ECC file extension is rather rarely used and is used by many programs, each with its own file format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 6% of all ECC files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "C2 46" at the beginning. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. ECC files are between 4.1 MB and 4.1 MB in size.
- 3% of all ECC files use the popular JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 920 bytes. The files contain the following words: calDataText. Such files are related to label.
All other ECC files (91%) have no uniform format, the following 4 formats exist: Ecchi ECC animation and ICE ECC data. Sometimes used for photo, docx, render or pict. If you want to find out what your ECC file contains, drag and drop it onto this page.
Technical Data for ECC File Extension
The following listing is compiled from the database produced by the 'Associate This!' program, selected data from the main FILExt database and file extension information submitted by users.
EXEFile: GraphicsConverter.exe
EXEFile: Pholi.exe
EXEFile: %ProgramFiles%\XnView\xnview.exe %1
an ecc error-correction file is a special file format by Carsten Gnörlich and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with ECC files
- Associate the ECC file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open error-correction files. Because only the current version supports the latest ECC file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Carsten Gnörlich manufacturer website after an available dvdisaster update.
- To make sure that your ECC file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .ECC file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
