Opening an EPI File
The EPI file type is primarily associated with EclipsePackager2000.
What is an EPI file
- Use: The main purpose of the EPI format file is to describe an illustration as a single page PostScript (a dynamically typed, programming language) program developed by Adobe. It can contain any combination of text, graphics or images.
- Features: The EPI format consists of a complete archive or a part of a split archive. It is a standard format developed for the import and export of PostScript language files. EPI files represent the images in the PostScript document as a series of hexadecimal strings as PostScript comments.
- Format Conventions: The an Encapsulated PostScript Interchange document must conform to the norms of Adobe Document Structuring Conventions (DSC). As a result, a header comment section and the bounding box comment section (that specifies the bounds of the Illustration) are required.
- Other uses: An EPI file may also contain a compressed archive created by EclipsePackager2000, a program used for splitting and compressing files developed by Green Eclipse. Green Eclipse Intelligent Packing Technology uses this format to minimize data loss.
