Opening an EPSI File
The EPSI file type is primarily associated with Ghostscript.
What is an EPSI file
These files work by storing vector instructions along with a bounding box that sets the image dimensions.
FilExt.com tip: Because the file is text-based, you can even open it in a simple text editor to see the PostScript code, though editing it requires knowledge of PostScript syntax.
How to open EPSI files
You need a suitable software like Ghostscript to open an EPSI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EPSI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EPSI file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

EPSI file format:
To find out what program is needed to open EPSI files, you need to determine the file format. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. So you need a detailed analysis of a file to find out the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the EPSI files is as follows:
EPSI is not a common file extension and is primarily used by a single program. The following file formats are most commonly found in EPSI files:
- 90% of all EPSI files belong to Encapsulated PostScript Interchange. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. EPSI files can be up to 4 MB in size, but are often around 25 KB - 1 MB. The file type was used 20 years ago but is still in use today. The files contain the following words: BoundingBox, Creator, Title, CreationDate, %!PS-Adobe-2.0 EPSF-2.0, %%EndComments, BeginPreview, Institute, Version and %%Pages: 1. Such EPSI files store data about figure, plot and underlay.
All other EPSI files (10%) have different formats. If you want to find out which format your EPSI file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .epsi file to view".

How to solve problems with EPSI files
- Associate the EPSI file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open vector image files. Because only the current version supports the latest EPSI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available Ghostscript update.
- To make sure that your EPSI file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
