Opening an EPX File
The EPX file type is primarily associated with EpiData.
What is an EPX file?
EpiData XML files: These use XML to store project data. They are used with EpiData software for research and survey data. See details at EpiData.
EPX database archives: Some EPX files are ZIP‐based archives. They store a database and are used in laboratory settings for PCR plate data. This format may be opened with tools like EPXView. More information is available at Cepheid.
Electronic Design Interchange files: A group of EPX files carry design data used with EDWin20 or EDWinXP in electronics layout.
Encrypted PDF files: In other cases, the EPX extension marks encrypted PDF files. These files secure data for systems used by Texa or Bosch ESI[tronic].
ArchiCAD project files: Some EPX files use a TIFF container to hold 3D model and project data for ArchiCAD. Visit Graphisoft for more details.
FilExt.com tip: If you have an EPX file, first inspect its properties or header. This helps determine which software is needed to open it.
How to open an EPX file
You need a suitable software like EpiData to open an EPX file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your EPX file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a EPX file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

Programs that open and convert EPX files:
- EpiData
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. EPX files are often referred to as EpiData data files because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Piranesi (3D Model File) by Informatix Software InternationalThe EPix ( .epx ) file format is 3D Model Image File for the 3D Modelling software called Piranesi developed by Informatix Software International. Piranesi is a software application which can deliver both photorealistic and non-photorealistic renders of your detailed images. This file format is classified as Graphic.
EPX file extension format:
A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. The first characters in a file identify the file format, for example, HTML files start with the bytes <html>. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the EPX files comes to the following conclusion:
An EPX file covers different formats for different programs. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 35% of all EPX files are associated with Rational Software Architect Profile files, which internally utilize the well-known XML format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. The contents of these files are easily readable with a text editor. A typical file size is 51 KB. It is a modern file type. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> and <EpiData xmlns="http://www.epidata.dk/XML/2.1" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.epidata.dk/XML/2.1 http://ww. These files can be linked to project, data, kursfortegnelse, modeler, study, entry, layer and exit.
- 20% of all EPX files are based on the zip format, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one EPX file. 2 to 25 compressed files with names like ProfileParameters.xml and Profiles1.xml are common. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The file size is in the range of 16 KB to 3 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Profiles1.xml and epxdatabase_data.mdf. Examples of file names are Anagrafiche_20180601.epx or EPXdb_20180601.epx. These files are attributed to database, backup and well.
All other EPX files (45%) have no uniform format, the following 7 formats exist: TIFF, XML, EDWin and DSRB. Tagged as formats, adder, trigger, badge, free, addereds or uong. Drag & drop your file here to see the file format and a preview of your EPX file!
Technical Data for EPX File Extension
an epx data file is a special file format and should only be edited and saved with the appropriate software.
How to solve problems with EPX files
- Associate the EPX file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open data files. Because only the current version supports the latest EPX file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available EpiData update.
- To make sure that your EPX file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .EPX file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
