EST file format:
Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. If there are problems opening a file, you must first determine the file format used. In the following you will find our evaluation of the EST files:
The EST file ending includes various formats for various programs. The two most popular formats are as follows:
- 45% of all EST files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Compound File Binary File format (CFBF or CFB) or OLE2 Compound Document format. This Windows file format has features similar to those of a filesystem format with virtual files and subfolders. Header signature for the CFB format with 8-byte Hex value D0CF11E0A1B11AE1 (which looks like "DOCFILE"). The internal app name of EST files is Microsoft Streets & Trips. There is also a CLSID, a globally-unique identifier of a COM (Component Object Model) object: a49eea00-9231-4c77-aa9e-2f89d72b4804. Sections and streams in the file are named Annotations, Contents, Highlights, Journey, UserData, Olhud5yvVwudb10uAaq5ezn4Ac, SummaryInformation, OnlineSearch and Rendering. The files are often between 6 KB and 320 KB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. Such EST files store data about trip, states, united, north, nashville, america, streets, area and west, and frequently comprise personal data.
- 10% of all EST files have the same signature hoven. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The file size is in the range of 100 MB to 370 MB. The files contain the following words: hoven and YUAN. Files like these are about antonyms.
The remaining 45% of all EST files are files with no common format, such as XML, JetDB, GZIP and ABS. Tagged as xode, token, reports or userid. If you want to find out which format your EST file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .est file to analyze".
