What is a FAF file?

FAF files mostly belong to Fortress Interlocks. FAF files are not a single file type but a set of different data files used by several specialized applications. They include:

Fortress Order Files – These serve as configuration files for systems from Fortress Interlocks Ltd and Fortress Interlocks Label Printing System. They are used to manage and coordinate interlocking systems. More details can be found at Fortress Safety.

Profiler Dump Files – Generated by TADP, these files (sometimes called For Honor profiler data files) store performance profiling information.

Front Office Football Draft Files – Used by Front Office Football Central, these files contain draft information for football setups.

Compressed Game Replay Files – A portion are compressed with ZIP methods and serve as game replay files for FAForever. Further information is available at FAForever.

How do you open FAF files?

You need a suitable software like Fortress Interlocks to open a FAF file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your FAF file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a FAF file directly in the browser:. FAF file format details:

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the FAF files comes to the following conclusion:

FAF is not a common file extension and covers different formats for different programs. The file formats most commonly found in FAF files are:

• 25% of all FAF files start with the bytes DAEH, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 480 KB to 7 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as DAEH and TADP. Some examples of file names are ProfilerDump.faf or 2020.06.01 10.30_R6-Final-PC.faf. Files like these are sometimes connected to profiler, dump, frame, null and slow.
• 25% of all FAF files use the same file format, which have the signature #B Fortress Interlocks Ltd . The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are on average 3 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 3 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as Fortress Interlocks Ltd, 1   TO, DEFAULT GROUP 1   FROM, Order Number, Issue   : 1 WI, E GROUP, E TO , EFROM , EIssue, EORDER NUMBER, EPart Number and F   : DEFAULT GROUP 1.
