What is a GCT file

GCT files mostly belong to Gecko OS by GeckOS Developers. A GCT file contains cheat codes created using Ocarina Cheat Code Manager and applied to video games for Wii consoles. It contains information which allows players access to previously restricted game features. Gecko OS can import and run the same kind of GCT file on a Wii game loaded into a Wii emulator. Another type of GCT file is a gene set expression created by GenePattern genome analysis toolkit. A gene set expression is a matrix of gene and expression values organized into a table where each column is a sample and each cell is a value for that sample.

How to open GCT files

You need a suitable software like Gecko OS to open a GCT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GCT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GCT file directly in the browser:. GCT file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our analysis of the GCT files produces the following result:

The file type with the extension 'GCT' is used by a few programs, each with its own file format. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 55% of all GCT files are associated with GenePattern GCT format. The content consists of readable text data, which can be read using a text editor. The files are often between 440 KB and 4 GB in size. The file type is old but is used even today. The keywords Description, Name, GTEX-1117F-0226-SM-5GZZ7, GTEX-1117F-0426-SM-5EGHI and GTEX-1117F-0526-SM-5EGHJ are typical for these files. The file name GTEx_Analysis_2020-06-01_v8_RNASeQCv1.1.9_gene_tpm.gct or GTEx_Analysis_2020-06-01_v8_RNASeQCv1.1.9_gene_reads.gct is typical for these files. These files can be linked to analysis, gtex, gene, rnaseqc, reads, ccle, transcript, rnaseq and rsem.
• 35% of all GCT files start with the bytes 00 D0 C0 DE 00, which are crucial for this file format. They consist of unreadable binary data. GCT files are between 32 bytes and 3 KB in size. Some examples of file names are RSBE01.gct or RMCE01.gct. Files like these are sometimes connected to rmcp.
