What is a GPS file?

GPS files mostly belong to GPX viewer/ProTool/GPSS World.

This file type is not tied to one single use. An GPS file can be used in several ways depending on its origin:

ProTool configuration file – It stores system settings used in programmable logic controller (PLC) applications. Use specialized ProTool software to view or edit its configuration data.
GPSS World simulation file – It is used to run simulation models. You would need the GPSS World simulation package to properly open and work with this file.

How to open GPS files

You need a suitable software like GPX viewer/ProTool/GPSS World to open a GPS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The following filename is common: Gppw.gps.
9% of all GPS files start with the bytes D3 07 00 00 AF 0B 00 00, which are crucial for this file format. If you open these files in a text editor, you will see only illegible characters. Most of these files are 10 KB to 15 KB in size. These files can be linked to model.
