What is a GS1 file?

GS1 files mostly belong to Genecyst. Genecyst is a Sega Genesis system emulator released in 1997. The number behind the .GS# file extension indicates the save state (current game state at time of the save) number. Savestates are compatible with the Gens emulator and probably all of its variants. This should apply to any saved Sega Genesis games played in an emulator.

How to open GS1 files

You need a suitable software like Genecyst to open a GS1 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your GS1 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a GS1 file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.
