What is a GSR file?

GSR files mostly belong to GPSWOX Tracker.

GSR files are used in different systems and carry specific data. Many GSR files use a JSON format to store GPS tracking information. This data, such as coordinates and time stamps, is generated by tracking systems like GPSWOX Tracker and helps monitor movements in real time.

Other GSR files are linked to vehicle diagnostics. They serve as ECU calibration or data logs for Hyundai and Kia vehicles. Such files usually use proprietary formats (often referred to as GDS2) to record performance and service details, which are used by automotive diagnostic tools.

How can I open a GSR file?

Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. • 35% of all GSR files are based on the popular JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. These files are plain text, which means they can be viewed with any text editor such as Windows Editor, Nano for Linux, and TextEdit for macOS. The files are on average 130 KB in size and range from 8 KB to 1 MB. The file type is very recent. The following keywords are characteristic: imei, name and route. Files like these have the following tags: toyota and nissan, and usually contain person-related data.
• 15% of all GSR files use the same file format, which have the signature ETC. They consist of unreadable binary data. GSR files can be up to 630 KB in size, but are often around 570 KB - 610 KB. Some examples of file names are BI3_ENGINE_20180601.GSR or SU2i_IBU-BCM_20180601.GSR. These files are often associated with engine, absesc and tpms.

The remaining 50% of all GSR files are different files with different signatures, the following 9 formats exist: XML, TMA, MAL and Not.
