To find out what program is needed to open GUL files, you need to determine the file format. The GUL file extension is rarely used and is primarily used by a single program. However, the following two file formats are common:
- 75% of all GUL files use the Microsoft Compound File format, also known as Composite Document File format or OLE2 compound document format. This general-purpose file format provides a file-system-like structure within a file for the storage of arbitrary, application-specific streams of data. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. The files are on average 160 KB in size and range from 36 KB to 5 MB. The file type was developed 20 years ago and is still in use today. Such files are related to manual, assy, line and list.
- 10% of all GUL files have the same signature <## NASCA DRM FILE - VER1.00 ##>. These files are binary files, so they do not contain text, but only cryptic characters. A typical file size is 120 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as <## NASCA DRM FILE - VER1.00 ##>.
