What is an ISX file?
ISX files mostly belong to SimulationX by ESI ITI. ISX files are created and used by Intrasis for storing archaeological data or other projects which require the creation and/or mapping of data from multiple sources.
- Main Usage: Intrasis is a geographic information system software. It is primarily used for applications in archeology, however, can be applied to many situations in which information must be mapped from a variety of sources. It allows a user to create projects which are given a dedicated database in which to store information about the project. Intrasis stores this information in a ISX file, which has a file format similar to an XML file. The difference between a regular XML file and an ISX file is that the latter is able to store a variety of information as metadata which is required by Intrasis. Intrasis requires PostgreSQL and ArcGIS to function.
- Support: These files are only compatible with computers running the Windows operating system.

4 Steps to Open an Unknown .ISX File
ISX files can originate from different programs and aren't universally openable.
- Identify the Source: If received from a systems engineer, it is likely a SimulationX compressed archive. If from a software developer, it may be an installer script.
