All about ITA Files
The ITA file type is primarily associated with IconTweaker.
What is an ITA file
- Main Usage: ITA files are compressed archives which contain an ITT file and possibly an ICL or numerous ICO files. When opened with IconTweaker, the theme data contained within a ITA file may be used to modify icons such as those of files, folders, and drives. This allows a user to customize the appearance of their computer and may be useful by helping to distinguish between similar files, folders, or drives.
- Compression: The contents of ITA files are compressed as a ZIP archive. There is no difference between the format of an ITA file and that of a ZIP file, though the ITA extension specifies the expected contents of the compressed archive.
- Compatibility: ITA files are only usable by IconTweaker, however, the contents can be extracted using a regular file archiver that supports ZIP files. IconTweaker is only compatible with computers running Windows.
How to open ITA files
You need a suitable software like IconTweaker to open an ITA file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your ITA file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a ITA file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

ITA file format:
Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). File extension, signature and file format must match; otherwise errors will occur when the file is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. Our evaluation of the ITA files is as follows:
The ITA file extension is rarely used and includes very many different file formats. But the following two file formats are common:
- 15% of all ITA files start with the bytes CPYA 3.789 # crucial for this file format. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. ITA files can be up to 14 KB in size, but are often around 7 KB - 13 KB. The files contain the following words: CPYA 3.789 #, DUMMY and I.PLOT1. These files are often associated with krit.
- 15% of all ITA files use the same file format, which have the signature \\ ***********************************************. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. The files are often between 10 KB and 25 KB in size. The following keywords are characteristic: \\ *********.
All the rest of the ITA files (70%) have different formats, such as IconTweaker theme, IONTOF SurfaceLab TOF-SIMS Analysis, UTF-16 (LE), PDF and MATLAB. They are often associated with sche, icons, boseqc, pandar, scheda, asset or bagno. If you want to find out which format your ITA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .ita file to analyze".

How to solve problems with ITA files
- Associate the ITA file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open archived application files. Because only the current version supports the latest ITA file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Joost Verburg manufacturer website after an available IconTweaker update.
- To make sure that your ITA file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
