All about K01 Files
The K01 file type is primarily associated with Archive Utility.
What is a K01 file?
Primary use: Many such files are encrypted data parts or archive segments that, when combined with additional segments, reconstruct the full archive.
These files show up in several specialized contexts:
How to open a K01 file
You need a suitable software like Archive Utility to open a K01 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your K01 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a K01 file directly in the browser:. Programs that open and convert K01 files:
- Archive Utility
See the previous paragraphs to learn more about the main application. K01 files are often referred to as Archive Utility compresseds because this type of file is primarily created or used by this software.
- Clarion (DOS Database Key File) by SoftVelocityThe .DAT file is usually associated with .K## (##=numbers) key files that are indexes into the data. There may also be a .MEM memo file. This is a structure used by DOS versions of the software. If the .K## files are not available and are not automatically rebuilt you can use the oldest DOS version of Clarion Professional Developer to build them. K01 file format:
To view or edit K01 files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the K01 files comes to the following conclusion:
K01 is rarely used as a file extension and includes various formats for various programs. The file formats most commonly found in K01 files are:
- 30% of all K01 files start with the magic bytes 01 00 00 00, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The content consists of illegible binary data, which can only be read and interpreted by the associated programs. A typical file size is 1 KB. The file type was created 10 years ago, but is still used today.
- 15% of all K01 files are Raima Data Manager Key files. They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. The files are on average 16 KB in size and range from 2 KB to 200 KB. The following keywords are characteristic: Build, Raima Database and Raima Database Manager 4.
The remaining 55% of all K01 files are different files with different signatures. They are often associated with acct or adet. Just click the "Choose your .k01 file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your K01 file is.
