What is an LDW file

LDW files mostly belong to Virtual Villagers.

LDW files have more than one purpose. The most common type is a game save file used by the game Last Day of Work from Virtual Villagers. In this case, the file stores your game progress and state in a format that the game software can read directly.
Other uses include:

How to open LDW files

You need a suitable software like Virtual Villagers to open an LDW file. LDW file format:

To view or edit LDW files you need to know the file format, because it determines how the data in this file is stored. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our examination of the LDW files comes to the following conclusion:

LDW is not a common file extension and predominantly uses a uniform format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 75% of all LDW files belong to Virtual Villagers data. They consist of unreadable binary data. LDW files can be up to 340 KB in size, but are often around 160 bytes - 150 KB. The file type is relatively new. The keywords ldwg are typical for these files. The following filename is common: Isola21.ldw or Isola1.ldw. These files are attributed to virtual, villagers, families, believers, secret, tycoon, city and plant.
• 10% of all LDW files use ZIP compression, so several files are combined and compressed into one LDW file. Such a ZIP file contains 4 to 16 files with names like index.xml. Tip: If you rename the file ending to .zip and then double-click it, you see the included files and images. The files are on average 13 KB in size and range from 4 KB to 20 KB.
