What is an LSS file

LSS files mostly belong to LimeSurvey. LSS files are not a single file type but rather a file extension used in various systems.
They can be:

How can I open an LSS file?

You need a suitable software like LimeSurvey to open an LSS file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. The LSS file extension is very common and includes different formats for the applicable programs. But the following two file formats are common:

• 55% of all LSS files are associated with LiveSplit Split files, which internally utilize the well-known XML format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files and can therefore be read using a text editor. The files are on average 47 KB in size and range from 3 KB to 580 KB. The file type was developed only in the last few years. The files contain the following words: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <Run version="1.7.0">, <GameIcon />, GameName, CategoryName, <Metadata> and <Run id="" />. A usual file name is The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild - 100- 7.4.lss. Such files are related to mario, super, star and leveling.
• 15% of all LSS files use the same file format, which can be identified by the letters "TRIANGLE" at the beginning. They consist of unreadable binary data. The file size is in the range of 94 KB to 6 MB. The files contain the following words: McCarthy Taylor Partnership Tria and TRIANGLE. Files like these are sometimes connected to base, site, model, topo, park and plan.

All the rest of the LSS files (30%) have different formats, often, for example, LSS16 SYSLINUX Splash image, Handy savestate, config, XStreamDSO and SGB.
