What is an LT file

LT files mostly belong to Xcode. LT files serve different functions based on their internal format and origin.

Apple plist files: Some LT files use an XML structure to store configuration data. These files work as property lists for apps built with Xcode and edited in the Apple Property List Editor. For more details, visit the Xcode Developer page.

Kaspersky Lab localization files: Other LT files are used by Kaspersky products. They hold language translation data in UTF-8 and support language settings in applications such as Kaspersky Safe Kids. More details can be found at the Kaspersky Safe Kids website.

WordPerfect printer files: A few LT files are used as printer command files. They contain instructions for printer drivers like those for LaserJet or LaserWriter printers.

How to open an LT file

You need a suitable software like Xcode to open an LT file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your LT file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a LT file directly in the browser:. LT file format:

Every file has a defined file format, i.e. how the data is arranged in the file. The initial characters of a file are called signature, sometimes also referred to as "magic bytes". The signature can be used to infer the file format. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the LT files is as follows:

The LT file extension is rather rarely used and has no uniform or dominant file format. But the following two file formats are common:

• 10% of all LT files internally utilize the XML file format. The Extensible Markup Language (XML) is a simple text-based format for representing structured information: documents, webpages, data, configuration, books, transactions, invoices, and much more. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. LT files are between 910 bytes and 38 KB in size. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">, <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>, <dict>, <plist version="1.0">, client and <key>feed.voyager.mobile.rel. The following filename is common: lixLogs.lt.
• 9% of all LT files are based on the popular UTF-8 file format. UTF-8 is the World Wide Web's most common character encoding for Unicode. UTF-8 files can be viewed with any text editor. These files start with the 3 bytes  (hex: EF BB BF), the so called byte order mark (BOM). These files contain text and words, not binary data. LT files can be up to 85 KB in size, but are often around 310 bytes - 21 KB. The file name mainwindow.lt or activation.lt is typical for these files.

All other LT files (81%) have no uniform format, frequently e.g. Student Writing Center document, WordPerfect, PDF and LIGHT. These files are often connected to lfpw, meteofrance, aktinidija, sargasses, serveriai, toulouse, transmet, skelbiu, lfro or scan.
