How to open a LUP file

Each file has a definite file format, that is, how the stored data is arranged in the file. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Exact knowledge of the format is therefore important in order to solve problems occurring in files. In the following you will find our evaluation of the LUP files:

LUP is rarely used as a file extension and is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:

• 20% of all LUP files use the ZIP algorithm, so multiple files are compressed and stored together in one LUP file. A LUP file includes 1 to 4 files. File names inside are always E2-lic.lic, lup and midl.dat. A little tip: If you rename the file extension to .zip and then double-click, you will see the included files and images. The files are on average 4 KB in size and range from 1 KB to 19 KB. The keywords E2-lic.lic are typical for these files. The file name es-lup-2020-06-01.lup is characteristic of these files. • 7% of all LUP files store the data in the LinuxAr file format.
