Opening a MAL File
The MAL file type is primarily associated with Topcon Magnet Field.
What is a MAL file?
If the MAL file is in a Windows executable format (EXE), it has been renamed and might be used to hide potentially malicious software. In this case, you should scan the file with antivirus software and verify it using resources such as VirusTotal.
Another use is as a Machine Alarms file. In this variant, the file uses a Microsoft Compound format and is similar to a Microsoft Access lock file. It stores log or alarm data from machines.

MAL file format:
If you can determine the file format, the associated program can also be determined. The file format can be deduced from the file extension and the signature. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the MAL files looks like this:
The MAL file extension is not found very often and does not have a uniform file format. The file formats most commonly found in MAL files are:
- 15% of all MAL files use the same file format, which have the signature 81 66 66 66 66 26 48 00 65. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. MAL files are between 110 KB and 7 MB in size. The file type is relatively new. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as DEMO, Error, Head1, Head2, Head3 and ffff&H. Such files are related to person-related data.
- 15% of all MAL files use the popular EXE file format. EXE is the abbreviation for executable and is the standard executable file format on Windows. The format can be identified by the letters "MZ" at the beginning. Executable files can also be used to distribute viruses and other types of malicious software (malware). They consist of illegible, cryptic characters. Most of these files are 76 KB to 32 MB in size. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as !This program cannot be run in DOS mode. The file name snake.mal or Setup.exe.mal is characteristic of these files.
The remaining 70% of all MAL files are different files with different signatures, the following 6 formats exist: DOC. These files are often connected to machine, alarms, survey, ijvm, design, tachy, code or road. If you want to find out which format your MAL file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .mal file to analyze".
