What is an MTW file?

MTW files mostly belong to Minitab by Minitab. MTW (or MWX) is a Worksheet File used by the statistical analysis software p.Minitab. A worksheet file contains all the information in the worksheet, including columns, constants, matrices, and design objects.

Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. MTW file format:

A file format defines how the data in the file is structured. A file format is determined by the file extension and signature, so JPEG images have the extension .jpg and the first bytes in the file are ÿØÿ. Nonetheless, different programs can utilize the same file extension to represent distinct file formats. Double-clicking on the file often results in an error when opening. You will often come across the MTW file type. This is primarily used by a single program. However, the following two file formats are common:

• 95% of all MTW files utilize the Microsoft Compound File format, known also as OLE2 Compound Document format or Composite Document File format. Most of these files are 4 KB to 7 KB in size. The file type is very old but is also used today. Files like these are about reliability, data, time, failures, water, pump, compressor, engine and growth.
• 3% of all MTW files use the same file format, which have the signature 8H39 WAVE Ver 01.00 . These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. MTW files can be up to 49 MB in size, but are often around 19 MB - 46 MB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as 8H39 WAVE   Ver 01.00, @DROT, EROT, EWAV, YSFC and DWAV.
