Opening NST Files
The NST file type is primarily associated with IBM Lotus Notes.
What is an NST file?
The NST file may be one of two distinct types. It can be used as an Outlook Navigator Database in IBM Lotus Notes, where the file serves as an internal database for email navigation and related settings.
Alternatively, the file might be a NIST biometric file that stores fingerprint data for use with NIST Biometric Image Software (NBIS) or NIST Fingerprint Image Software (NFIS). This form is common in systems that process and analyze fingerprint information. More details are available at NIST.
- IBM Lotus Notes Use: As an Outlook Navigator Database, the file maintains data for email routing and system navigation. Users should open it with the IBM Lotus Notes client.
- NIST Fingerprint Use: In biometric applications, the file holds fingerprint data and must be viewed with specialized NIST software.
FilExt.com note: Each variant of the file requires the corresponding software to view and edit its contents. It is important to confirm the file’s origin before attempting to open it, as the two uses are not interchangeable.
How to open an NST file
You need a suitable software like IBM Lotus Notes to open an NST file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your NST file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a NST file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

How to solve problems with NST files
- Associate the NST file extension with the correct application.
- Update your software that should actually open database files. Because only the current version supports the latest NST file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the manufacturer website after an available IBM Lotus Notes update.
- To make sure that your NST file is not corrupted or virus-infected, get the file again and scan it with Google's virustotal.com.
- Click here to open your .NST file online - secure, fast, and no downloads needed.
