Opening an OMA File
The OMA file type is primarily associated with OpenMG Jukebox.
What is an OMA file
Audio Files (Sony OpenMG): The .oma extension is most often used for audio files in the Sony OpenMG system. These files hold music data that may be protected with DRM. You can open them with Sony's OpenMG Jukebox software.
Optical Measurement Data:
Other .oma files come from optical marking applications. They store measurement details from instruments used in optical data capture. Devices from companies like Nidek produce these files.
CNC and Robot Program Files:
A few .oma files are used in industrial settings. They can include CNC machine tool data or Fanuc robot program instructions and are handled by specialized editors such as OMA Editor.
FilExt.com note: Knowing the file origin helps decide which application to use. The file content is linked to its source device, so use the software designated to the device type to view or edit the file.

One is to use a program like SonicStage to burn them to a CD. Then, use whatever program you like to rip the audio off the CD and convert to whatever format suits. You should also be able to use the original Sony software with the Tools | Options | CD Recording | Select Format menu to convert to a .WAV CD format which can then be ripped. Can be played with SonicStage 2.1+. The identifying characters used for this association are - Hex: 65 61 33 03 00 00 00, ASCII: ea3 . This file format is classified as Audio. OMA file extension format:
The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Often, the file format can be deduced from the file extension or the initial bytes (called the signature). Frequently, however, one file extension is used by different programs for different file formats, and one file format for different file extensions. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Below is our analysis of the OMA files:
The OMA file extension is not common and predominantly uses a uniform format. The two most common formats are as follows:
- 80% of all OMA files are associated with Sony OpenMG Audio. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. A typical file size is 3 MB. The file type was primarily used more than 10 years ago. The files contain the following words: vTIT2, binary, KEYRING, vGEOB and TCON. Examples of file names are 1000000A.OMA or 20180601A0.OMA. These files can be linked to dance.
- 6% of all OMA files start with the magic bytes REQ=F, which are always the first bytes of this file format. The contents of these files can even be read by a human. OMA files can be up to 18 KB in size, but are often around 9 KB - 18 KB. Certain words are almost always found in the files, such as TRCFMT.
The remaining 14% of all OMA files are files with no common format, the following 3 formats exist: SDBIHgK. If you want to find out which format your OMA file belongs to, just click on the button "Choose your .oma file to play".
