What is an OPML file?

OPML files mostly belong to OmniOutliner by The Omni Group. An OPML file is an outline of Internet feeds (e.g. RSS feeds) saved as XML-encoded data. OPML is short for Outline Processor Markup Language. It was originally developed for the purpose of outlining a hierarchy (tree) of arbitrary data written with OmniOutliner (previously Outliner). The OPML file's contents are mainly subdivided into the <head> and <body> sections which are nested in the <opml version="1.0"> root element. Each line in the outline is written between <outline> tags. OPML is generally used to save outlines and exchange data between web feed aggregators such as Feedly, FeedWind, Shrook, and Feedity.

How do you open OPML files?

You need a suitable software like OmniOutliner to open an OPML file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your OPML file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a OPML file directly in the browser:.
