What is a PART file?

PART files mostly belong to Firefox by Mozilla. PART is the filename extension of a partially downloaded file. When applications such as Firefox, Free Download Manager, Skype, and Jdownloader begin to download a file, they add PART filename extension to a file's full name. For example, when a user downloads an MP4 file named file.mp4 with Firefox, Firefox renames the file to file.mp4.part. Upon completing the download, the program restores the file's name to its original state (i.e. file.mp4). Another type of PART file is a product assembly part created by Creo product design and engineering software.

How to open a PART file

You need a suitable software like Firefox to open a PART file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PART file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PART file directly in the browser:. Just drag the file onto this browser window and drop it.

PART file extension format:

To find out what program is needed to open PART files, you need to determine the file format. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension, and file extensions can be assigned incorrectly. Knowledge is power - this also applies when dealing with unknown or faulty files. Our evaluation of the PART files is as follows:

The PART extension is very commonly found and is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:

All other PART files (50%) have no uniform format, often e.g. MP4, PDF, RAR, MKV, DOC, 7z, GZIP, JPG, RIFF, MP3, BZ2 and fSfQ. They are often associated with video, woman, free, microsoft, episode or english. Just click the "Choose your .part file to analyze" button on this page to find out what your PART file is.
