What is a PD2 file?

PD2 files mostly belong to CLO 3D. PD2 files are used in several specialized fields. They are not one single format but a group of project files that store data for specific software. They can contain different types of information depending on the originating application.

CLO3D Pattern Design Files – These files store garment pattern data encoded in UTF-16 (LE) for use with CLO 3D Pattern Design Software. For details, visit CLO3D.

eQUEST Project Files – These contain building data used for energy simulations in eQUEST. More info is available at eQUEST.

Pharos Designer Show Files – These files hold show setup data for use with Pharos Designer. See Pharos Controls for further details.

Techimp Partial Discharge Data Files – Designed for electrical analysis, these files carry partial discharge measurements for Techimp Services PD2 Analyzer. Additional information is on Techimp.

PDF Document Version 2 Files – Some PD2 files follow a PDF standard (version 2) and can be opened with Adobe Acrobat Reader.

DNA Sequencing Data Files – These store chromatogram and sequencing data used in bioinformatics, for example with DNAMAN or sequencing analysis software from Applied Biosystems. More details are at Applied Biosystems.

How to open PD2 files

You need a suitable software like CLO 3D to open a PD2 file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PD2 file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PD2 file directly in the browser:. PD2 file extension format:

Why is it important to know the file format? This is the only way to find out which program to use to open the file. The file format can be determined based on the file extension and the signature (the first few characters of a file). However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. So a detailed analysis of a file is vital in order to determine the format and the associated program. In the following you will find our evaluation of the PD2 files:

PD2 is not a commonly used file extension and includes very many different file formats. The two most popular formats are as follows:

• 15% of all PD2 files start with the bytes 00 00 43 00 52 00 45 00 41, which are crucial for this file format. These files contain neither text nor words, but only data. Most of these files are 22 KB to 400 KB in size. The file type was created recently. The files contain the following words: CREA2PMGR D and Ver.8.00.
• 15% of all PD2 files start with the bytes Proj , which are crucial for this file format. These files contain text and words, not binary data. The file size is in the range of 3 KB to 87 KB. The files contain the following words: Proj, ProductCode = "eQUEST", WeatherFile, CreateDate, BDBaseVersion = 25, ModDate and ProgramVersion = "eQUEST 3.65.7175". These files are attributed to project and building.

The remaining 70% of all PD2 files are different files with different signatures, the following 8 formats exist: UTF-16 (LE), PDF, MIDI, Pica, Techimp and SES.
