What is a PE file

PE files mostly belong to PROFIS Engineering Suite. A PE file can mean two different things depending on the context.

PROFIS Engineering File: This file type is used by the PROFIS Engineering Suite. It stores project data in XML or JSON format. Such files hold design and layout information for engineering projects. • 45% of all PE files are using the well-known XML file format to store the data. XML defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable. These files are text files, so they contain words and text. Most of these files are 16 KB to 22 KB in size. It is a modern file type. • 10% of all PE files are PETSCII Editor screen files, which are using the popular JSON file format. JSON (JavaScript Object Notation) is a lightweight data−interchange format. It is easy for humans to read and write. It is easy for machines to parse and generate. The contents of these files cannot be read by a human; only a computer program can interpret the data. PE files can be up to 44 KB in size, but are often around 9 KB - 25 KB. The files contain the following words: New project, \"http://petscii.krissz.hu/, auth, fileF, rVersion and {"app":"PETSCII Editor","version":"3.0","data":"{\"app\":\"PETSCII Editor\",\"url. The file name OPEN_PETSCII.PE or new_project-1.pe is characteristic of these files. These files can be linked to petscii, open and project.
