What is a PSI file?

PSI files mostly belong to PrimalScript by Sapien. A PSI file is an online help document used by PrimalScript integrated development environment with support for over 50 programming languages. Its contents include the help document topic, description, and a link to the actual help document on a remote server. Another type of PSI file is an image edited with Adesign photo editing software. PSI is also the filename extension of an image edited with PhotoScape graphics editor for macOS, Windows, and Linux. PKI Certificate Manager uses a different type of PSI file to save a certificate store for healthcare software provided by CESoft.

How to open PSI files

You need a suitable software like PrimalScript to open a PSI file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. If you cannot open your PSI file correctly, try to right-click or long-press the file. Then click "Open with" and choose an application. You can also display a PSI file directly in the browser:. PSI file format details:

The file format determines how the data is stored in the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. If the file extension or signature does not match the file format, errors will occur when opening or editing the file. The PSI file type is used by different programs with different formats. But the following two file formats are common:

20% of all PSI files have the same signature 01 00 00 00 40 00 00 00 20. These are binary files, so they do not contain words or text. The files are on average 460 KB in size and range from 7 KB to 11 MB. The file type is relatively new. Some examples of file names are Export_20180601.exe.psi. Such PSI files store data about movie, video and front.
9% of all PSI files have the same signature version=1.0 title=. If you open these files in a text editor, you can view and read the content yourself. The files are 160 bytes to 180 bytes in size, with a median of 180 bytes. The files contain the following words: frame_border=tile, version=1.0, title={ko}, frame_type=transparent, frame_blank=0 0 0 0, frame_corner=187 195 187 195, frame_file=antique_frame01.png and title=Antique Frame 01. An example of a file name is antique_frame01.psi. Files like these are about antique, frame and innerline.

The remaining 71% of all PSI files are files with no common format, the following 7 formats can be found: uniprotkb and This. The category is grimoire, particle, obliq, sword, blast, cloud, neigh or list. Associate the PSI file extension with the correct application.
Update your software that should actually open online help documents. Because only the current version supports the latest PSI file format. Search, therefore, e.g. on the Sapien manufacturer website after an available PrimalScript update.
