What is a PUD file?

PUD files mostly belong to JSON Viewer / Warcraft II Map Editor. PUD files come in two main types.
Product Usage Data files store usage information in a JSON format. Many of these files serve as backup files for products like Philips Hue. They hold diagnostic or usage data and can be opened with a text editor or a JSON viewer.

How to open PUD files

You need a suitable software like JSON Viewer / Warcraft II Map Editor to open a PUD file. Without proper software you will receive a Windows message "How do you want to open this file?" or "Windows cannot open this file" or a similar Mac/iPhone/Android alert. PUD file extension format:

The file format, which is the arrangement and type of data in a file, determines which program can open the file. Each file format has a unique extension and almost always a unique signature. For example, Microsoft Word documents have the extension .docx and the signature (usually the first 3 characters in this file) PK. However, different programs can use the same file extension. Furthermore, a file extension can be renamed incorrectly and double-clicking on it will then display an error when it is opened. The files are on average 120 KB in size and range from 36 KB to 120 KB. Several words can almost always be found in the files, e.g. DESC, DIM, ERA, OWNR, TYPE, WAR2 MAP, UDTA@ and VER. All You Need BNE.pud or Islands.pud is a typical file name. Such PUD files store data about need.
